The Bittersweet Collapse
A Visual Exploration of Neurodegeneration
This series reveals the perceptual world of elders with Alzheimer’s and Dementia through a surreal, layered visual language.
Domestic scenes: revisiting photographs, watering plastic flowers, misplacing objects, climbing precarious heights, embed a scientific substratum: windows echo MRI scans, sewn floral motifs mirror Amyloid-β Plaques, an apple embodies cerebral atrophy, plastic stems resemble demyelinated neurons.
Colours fog, symmetry intensifies: a dream that quietly unveils its collapse.
Motivated by witnessing my grandparents’ experience with Alzheimer’s and dementia, I have extensively researched neurodegeneration.
The series translates scientific insight into visual form, aiming to advance awareness and patient-centred understanding.
